Abstract:

Just south of the mouth of Mobile Bay (Main Pass), a CTD survey was conducted using Seabird SBE 25 Sealogger CTD on 2016/04/05. It measured depth, conductivity, temperature, depth, pressure, salinity, beam attenuation, beam transmission, sound velocity, and density.

Purpose:

This particular study aimed to understand the nature of buoyant freshwater plumes in shallow micro-tidal environments. Hydrographic surveys were conducted with a CTD. CTD, LISST, and water samples were collected around the spring CONCORDE mooring array (M01-M04 sites). Sampling was done in the early evening after Dorgan Lab finished field sampling in the R/V Pelagia.

Methods:

CTD was allowed to soak for approximately 1 minute at shallow depth than raised to the near-surface before beginning the descent to the bottom. Bottom was determined when casting line went slack. At that point, the CTD was raised to the surface.
