Abstract:

This is data from a study on how bacteria features affect their interaction with oil-water interfaces, particularly, the biological reaction of bacteria to stress at fluid interfaces through transcriptional profiling and mechanical assays. This dataset includes videos of particles in the interface between aqueous bacteria suspensions and hexadecane as well as compression of bacteria covered pendant drops. Related scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and RNA data can be found in GRIIDC dataset R4.x259.000:0008.

Purpose:

To understand the differences in mechanical responses by different bacteria strains at oil-water interfaces.

Data Parameters and Units:

Particle tracking videos are shot with a 50x objective, scale is 0.31 micrometers per pixel, interval between frames is 16 milliseconds. Pendant drop needles are between 0.7 and 0.9 mm in outer diameter. Drops are compressed at a rate of 0.1 mL/min. Video #, Interface age (s)
