Abstract:
This dataset contains ADCP, CTD casts, and near-surface data from ship’s continuous flow-through system and meteorological conditions during the R/V Walton Smith cruise WS17177 from 2017-06-26 to 2017-06-28 in the Florida Strait. Data were collected as part of a mission to satellite tag adult mahi-mahi (Coryphaena hippurus) and characterize the habitat where they were captured. Data included here is derived from conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) profiles conducted once-daily and underway Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) and underway data (near surface water) environmental and meteorological data collected for the duration of the cruise. The data for this cruise is also available in the R2R repository: https://www.rvdata.us/search/cruise/WS17177

Purpose:
A mahi-mahi satellite tagging study in the Florida Straits to characterize the vertical habitat and surface water conditions where adult mahi-mahi was captured. Underway current velocity profiles and surface water characteristics were combined with hydrographic station profiles (n=3) to document the salinity, temperature, chlorophyll-a, and dissolved oxygen vertical profiles.
