Abstract:
This study examined the influence of oil exposure on group dynamics in Atlantic croaker. Wild caught live croaker were collected and placed into one of 3 treatment groups; control, mixed, or oil. Mixed and oil groups were conducted using a high and low oil dose. Groups were then placed in an arena and 10 minute recording of movements were taken and assessed for velocity, distance moved, distance to closest neighbor, and distance to the wall. Methods:
Prior to being used, croaker were anesthetized with 0.25 g MS-222 (buffered in 0.5 NAHCO3) before being PIT tagged with “MiniHPT8” tags. While anesthetized, fish were were tagged with a bead and and mass, standard length, and total length was taken. After recovery, fish were placed into exposures of either control, 0.7% source WAF, or 2% source WAF.
