Abstract:

This study was examining the relationship between and individual's sociability and metabolic activity. This dataset contains the videos of the sociability of control individuals. A group of 3 unknown fish were either in the left or right arena. Tracked fish were placed in the center for 15 minutes to explore by themselves, and then for 20 minutes once partitions concealing the other 3 fish were removed.

Purpose:

To investigate how oil exposure may influence group shoaling behavior.

Data Parameters and Units:

Temperature- degrees C, Volume- mL or L, Photoperiod (hours light:dark)Time HH:MM, Total ammonia- uM, Date- mm/dd/yy, Salinity-ppt, Time in minutes, Length-cm Video title: Individual PIT Tag number and bead color. Date (DDMMYYY). Test All data is raw data exported from Aquaresp measurements taken during the experiments. Individuals are identified by their PIT Tag number and bead color. P- purple Y- yellow G- green O- orange Note: No individuals were exposed to oil. Juvenile croaker were kept in holding tanks and acclimated for 2 weeks before being used in this study. All videos were shot on a Hero 3 GoPro and have been converted to .mp4 format. Abbreviations: Ctrl- Control Expl- Exploration duration of the test Soca- First part of sociability test (~17 minutes) Socb- Second part of sociability test (~3 minutes) All videos were taken on GoPros mounted onto a mic stand. Exploration refers to the first period the fish is exploring the tank by itself without the visual cue of the other individuals in the tank. The sociability was measured for 20 minutes, however, GoPros can only record videos up to 17 minutes before starting a new clip. The first portion of the video is denoted by Soca and the second portion by Socb.

Methods:

Prior to being used, croaker were anesthetized with 0.25 g MS-222 (buffered in 0.5 NAHCO3) before being PIT tagged with “MiniHPT8” tags. While anesthetized, fish were were tagged with a bead and and mass, standard length, and total length was taken. After recovery, fish were placed into exposures of either control, 0.7% source WAF, or 2% source WAF.

Error Analysis:

All data was run through a general mixed model.
