Abstract:

This dataset is comprised of toxicological assays testing the influence of the dietary exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) of a parental generation (P0), on the survival of its offspring when exposure to the same compounds were performed on the embryo and larval life stages. Five separate groups composed of adult female and male zebrafish (Danio rerio) were used for this experiment. The first group was fed with flake control-food; the second group was fed with flake food previously spiked with water; and the rest of the groups were fed with flake food previously spiked with High Energy Water Accommodated Fractions - HEWAF (10%, 50%, 100%). The parental generation was measured and weighted during the exposure, and its F1 generation was exposed via the water to the same compounds. Endpoints for this experiment were changes in body length or weight of the PO and survival of the F1 when the exposures were performed. Data of both generations are provided in a spreadsheet containing some graphs; the statistical analysis and plots were made in SigmaPlot 12 (files are included), photos and videos taken from both generations are also included.

Purpose:

Determine if parental exposure to crude oil has an effect on offspring survival and physiology while facing oil conditions.

Data Parameters and Units:

This dataset contains the following 5 folders which include the following. 1. “Data”: This folder contains excel files with the raw data obtained in this experiment. There is a text file for each excel file, labeled with the same name and in which it is explained how the excel file is arranged. 2. “Data_Entry_Sheets”: This folder contains the analytical report from ALS related with this experiment, it also contains the excel file labeled HEWAF_preparation that contains the water accommodated fraction preparation and sampling table form, related to this experiment. 3. “F1_heart_rate_videos”: This folder contains the videos used to estimate the heart rate of the f1 offspring, this folder contains two folders (“B023-R2-F1” and “B023-R3-F1”), and inside each folder you will find a series of folders with images that I obtained from each one of the videos for analysis. After the series of folders with images, you will find the videos. 4. “Photos_adults_collagen”: This folder contains 4 folders (1._Control_collagen, 2._10%HEWAF_collagen, 3._50%HEWAF_collagen and, 4._100%HEWAF_collagen), each folder contains the images used to estimate collagen deposition related with this experiment. 5. “Photos_adults_length”: This folder contains 2 folders (“Replicate1” and “Replicate2”), each one with folders labeled Day_X_adults that contain photos of the adults to estimate the length of the fish during exposure. Main parameters: Body mass (mg), Body length (mm), Condition factor (is an index, no units), Specific growth rate (mm/day), Organ mass, ventricle, liver, gonads, gut, (mg), Collagen deposition (pixel density), Survival (% from initial survival), Heart rate (beats per minute - bpm).
