Abstract:

This dataset contains stable isotope analyses of model species collected aboard R/V Point Sur cruises DP03 and DP04 to examine marine food webs of the northern Gulf of Mexico from 2016-05-01 to 2016-08-18. These data represent stable isotope values (13C/15N) of deep pelagic micronekton collected in the northern Gulf of Mexico during 2016. Isotope values are derived from white muscle tissue dissected from 616 individual fishes, crustaceans and cephalopods that were collected using 10 m-2 MOCNESS trawls towed from the surface to depths of 1500 m. The samples were collected as part of an ongoing effort to describe the trophic ecology of major functional groups within deep-pelagic environments of the northern Gulf of Mexico. The cruise documentation was provided for the R/V Point Sur cruises DP03 and DP04 led by chief scientist Tracey Sutton.

Purpose:

Isotope data of deep-pelagic micronekton were collected in order to better describe the trophic structure of pelagic ecosystems in the Gulf of Mexico.

Data Parameters and Units:

Species name, sample_id, date (DD-Mon-YY), length (mm), d13C (‰), d15N (‰), C:N, latitude (decimal degrees), longitude (decimal degrees). Please note - length measurements for fishes represent the standard length taken from the tip of the snout to the end of the vertebral column; length of crustaceans represent carapace length; length of cephalopods is equal to the mantle length.
