Abstract:

This dataset contains physical and chemical sensor profile data collected by a 10m2 Multiple Opening-Closing Net and Environmental Sensing System (MOCNESS) during the 2011 NRDA ONSAP program in the northern Gulf of Mexico from 2011-01-28 to 2011-11-29, following the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. The data includes temperature, salinity, and depth profiles in 1-m depth strata from 5m to a maximum of 1661 m, from a total of 215 deployments. Dataset also contains the date, longitude, and latitude of sample collection. This dataset supports the publication: Milligan, Rosanna J., and Tracy T. Sutton. 2020. Purpose:

Collection of offshore fauna and oceanographic data for NRDA during 2011.

Data Parameters and Units:

Cruise documentation is also included. The chief scientist was Dr. Tracey Sutton. The correct start and end dates of the cruise are 2011-01-28 and 2011-09-29. The headers are: Deployment ID, Depth (m), Volume sampled (m3), temperature (C), salinity (unitless), MOCNESS angle (degrees), MOCNESS velocity (cm/s), latitude (decimal degrees), longitude (decimal degrees), and sample date (YYYY-MMM-DD).

Methods:

Data was collected from the sensors associated with a 10m2 Multiple Opening-Closing Net and Environmental Sensing System (MOCNESS) from 2011-01-28 and 2011-09-29 in the Northern Gulf of Mexico as part of the NRDA (ONSAP) program following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010. The data was collected from three cruise series: Meg Skansi 6, Meg Skansi 7, and Meg Skansi 8, and include physical oceanographic profiles from 5m depth to a maximum of 1661 m depth.
