Abstract:

This dataset includes oil concentration data from 17 sediment subsamples collected from lease blocks Mississippi Canyon (MC) 294 in the Gulf of Mexico in December 2010. A description of the sample, the shape of the sample, and the concentration of oil as a percentage and by weight is provided. Additionally oil concentration data are included from 3 nematodes homogenized and run as a single sample. Samples were collected at a maximum distance of 11 km from the Macondo wellhead and were analyzed via gas chromatography for total amount of oil.

Purpose:

To review the literature on genetic connectivity of deep-sea species in the Gulf of Mexico and discuss the potential for wider effects to deep Gulf coral communities.

• Each subsample is identified by the DSV Alvin dive number during which the sediment sample was collected, and is then numbered sequentially Description = general physical description of sample Shape = general classification of sample shape oil/ng = total amount of oil in sediment sample by weight (nanograms) weight/ug = total weight of sediment sample (micrograms) % oil = calculated percent of sample that is oil ug/g = oil concentration in sediment sample (micrograms/gram) ng/g = oil concentration in sediment sample (nanograms/gram)
