Abstract:

Dataset contains differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and impact testing data for thiolene mouthguard materials. This dataset includes transition temperatures for urethane and acrylate modified thiolene as well as a commercially available copolymer.

Purpose:

To study comparison of physical properties of various materials.

Data Parameters and Units:

(1) For all data sheets, “Polyshok” of “Proform” is a commercial poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) copolymer, AMTEN is an acrylate-modified thiol-ene network and UMTEN is a urethane-modified thiol-ene network. (2)On the sheet labeled “DMA,” these are dynamic mechanical analysis data. The labels are as follows: Tg = glass transition temperature (in °C) E’ = real part of Young’s modulus E” = imaginary part of Young’s modulus Tan (delta) = defined as the loss tangent, equals the ratio E”/E’ FWHM = Full width at half max for tan (delta) curves (3) On the sheet labeled "DSC", these are differential scanning calorimetry data. The labels are as follows: First heat Tg = glass transition temperature for first heating (in °C) Range 2nd heat = 2nd heat Tg = glass transition temperature for second heating (in °C) ΔCp (Tg) J g-1 °C = heat capacity Tm, peak = (°C) = melting point Tc = (°C) = crystallization point Endo 1 = Temperature (°C) [endothermic peak 1 at 44°C] Endo 2 = Temperature (°C) [endothermic peak 2 at 73°C] Endo 3 = Temperature (°C) [endothermic peak 3 at 95°C] (4) On the sheet labeled "damping %", these are percent impact adsorption data. Methods:

Thermal analysis: Samples were cooled (-70°C) and rested for 10 minutes, heated (10°C/min) to 150°C, annealed 10 min, samples were cooled (10°C/min) to -70°C then heated as above to 150°C Glass transition values calculated using the 2nd heating curve Crystallization temps were taken from the cooling curve DMA values collected using Rheometric Scientific MK V DSC values collected using TA Instruments Q200
