Abstract:
This dataset covers GoMRI RFP II research performed at Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) during 2016 in Dr. Chesney’s lab. Bay anchovy larvae (3 and 4dph) were exposed to HEWAF at range of concentrations (0, 3, 10, 20%) for 2 hours. The larvae were assessed for overall post exposure survival and a subset of apparently healthy larvae placed as replicated groups in petri dishes filled with clean seawater and their behavior recorded from above in a shadowgraph immediately post exposure. A second group of larvae were exposed under the same conditions, moved and then held for 24hrs in clean seawater, their physical condition assessed 24 hrs post exposure and then a subset of apparently healthy larvae placed as replicated groups in petri dishes and their swimming behavior recorded.

Methods:
Exposure experiments: Bay anchovy larvae were placed in beakers with different concentrations of HEWAF. After 2 hr exposures they were placed in clean seawater and then into petri dishes and then placed in a shadowgraph where their behavior was recorded in the presence of prey (rotifers). This was repeated with a second group of larvae where after 2 hrs of exposure they were placed in clean seawater, held for 24 hrs, mortality assessed and then small groups placed in petri dishes and then their behavior recorded. Swimming behavior was assessed from the videos in a frame by frame analysis of randomly selected sequences.
Instruments:
Salinity was measured using a VitalSine ™ SR-6 Salinity Refractometer. Dissolved oxygen was measured using a YSI Professional Optical Dissolved Oxygen (ProODO™) Instrument. Ammonia levels were measured using an API Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Ammonia Test Kit. HEWAF concentrations were confirmed by fluorescence measures and analyses by GC/MS.
