Abstract:

This dataset has kinorhynch species identifications for animals collected in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Collections were made during Fall 2013 and 2014 at 36 locations on the Gulf continental shelf using a multicorer. Cores were collected at a depth of 5 cm from the sediment/seawater interface. The animals were isolated from the sediment by centrifugation and were identified by either light microscopy or scannning electron microscopy. This dataset reports the number of individuals of each species per station.

Methods:

Sediment samples were collected using an Ocean Instruments mini-multicorer aboard the NOAA ships Gordon Gunter and Pisces, along the northern GOM continental shelf and slope. Samples were collected in Nov 2013 and Nov 2014. Animals were identified either by light microscopy or scanning electron microscopy.
