Abstract:
Adult and juvenile blue crabs were collected from seven Louisiana marshes using passive gear types (crab pots, hoop nets, handlines). Samples were collected from June 2014 to August 2015. Each individual was sexed, measured, and maturity was determined by the shape of the abdominal tergites or overall size. One milliliter of hemolymph was drawn aseptically from each individual and muscle tissues were taken and preserved. DNA from the hemolymph was extracted and screened with Taq-Man probes for the presence of Vibrio spp. This data includes records of whether each individual was infected or uninfected based on PCR screening.
