Abstract:

DNA sequences of the mitochondrial 16S genes used to identify to species individuals of Callinectes spp. Post-larvae crabs were collected between August 2013 and August 2015 at 4-6 week intervals during summer months, from two locations near Galveston, TX and Freeport, TX.

Methods:

Megalopae were collected from the water column using a 253 µm plankton net towed in ~1 m of water in the surf zone parallel to shore between 05:00 and 09:00. Species were identified by 16s mitochondrial sequences. Species abundance data can be found in GRIIDC dataset R2.x214.000:0005.
