Abstract:

This dataset will include data from laboratory exposure of adult sheepshead minnows to oil under a range of environmental conditions (dissolved oxygen, temperature and salinity) to assess the differential toxicity associated with a changing environment. This data will be generated at UConn, building on the results from the range of environmental conditions tested on embryos at Purdue and early life stages at USM. Endpoints will include egg production and fertilization, gonad size and gene expression.

Purpose:

Document the effects of environmental conditions (dissolved oxygen, temperature and salinity) on the toxicity of oil on reproductive outcomes in sheepshead minnows. Please note that GoMRI approved the switch from gulf killifish to sheepshead minnows for logistical reasons.

Endpoints (dependent variables) will include egg production and fertilization, gonad size and gene expression in adult sheepshead minnows exposed to oil under a range of environmental conditions.
