Abstract:

This dataset reports salt marsh fiddler crab (Uca spp.) burrow densities and burrow mean diameter at oiled and non-oiled sites in coastal Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama from 2010 to 2014. The species composition, reported as a count of the number of U. longisignalis and U. spinicarpa present are included for some sites from 2011-2013. Purpose:

The purpose of this research was to provide a comprehensive assessment of how the Deepwater Horizon oil spill affected fiddler crabs.

Data Parameters and Units:

location (original site name from source dataset), month (month of survey, 0-12), year (year of survey, 2010-2014), zone (distance from seaward marsh edge, where: 1 = marsh edge (0-6 m), 2 = oiled marsh interior (6-15 m), 3 = marsh interior inland of heavy oiling ( > 15 m). study name (author name of source dataset), oil presence (1 = oiled site, 0 = unoiled site), burrow density (mean density of crab burrows in number per square meter), mean diameter (mean burrow diameter (mm)), UL (number of Uca longisignalis present), US (number of Uca spinicarpa present), latitude (latitude of study site, decimal degrees), longitude (longitude of study site in decimal degrees)

Methods:

This dataset includes comparable data from published and unpublished sources to perform a meta-analysis.
