Abstract:

Data Set for the article "Soybean Lecithin as a Dispersant for Crude Oil Spills" . Soybean lecithin was fractionated into ethanol soluble (PC) and ethanol insoluble (PI)fractions. The structure of the ethanol insoluble fraction was modified through hydroxylation to form FPI. The effectiveness of the various fractions in dispersing crude oil was then examined with the US EPA's baffled flask test. The effect of crude oil type, and salinity on dispersion effectiveness were also examined. Purpose:

The objective of this work is to examine how soybean lecithin can be used as an oil spill dispersant. We show that, ethanol soluble fraction (PC) is a good emulsifier. Introduction of hydroxyl groups onto the ethanol insoluble fraction (PI) enhances the dispersion effectiveness.
