Abstract:

This dataset includes the concentrations of copolymers with various amounts (10%-60%) of hydrophobic content (n-dodecyl acrylamide). This dataset also reports the surface tension, scattering intensity, pyrene I3/I1 ratio, pyrene absorbance, and hydrodynamic diameter for the various copolymers. Graphs of these variables compared to the copolymer concentration are also included.

Purpose:

To study the potential for unimolecular micelles to be used in oil spill remediation.

Methods:

Copolymers or "polysoaps" were created by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) copolymerization of various molar ratios of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid (AMPS) and n-dodecyl acrylamide (DDAM). Copolymerizations occurred in dimethylformamide at 60 degrees C. Azoisobutylnitrile = initiator and 4-cyano-4-(ethylsulfanylthiocarbonylsulfanyl)pentanoic acid = chain transfer agent. Size exclusion chromatography-multi-angle laser light scattering; Dynamic light scattering; static light scattering; surface tensiometry; and fluorescence spectroscopy were employed
