Abstract:

The dataset includes Small-Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) intensity vs wave-vector data for various aqueous solutions of the surfactant sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate, also known as dioctyl sulfosuccinate (DOSS) or Aerosol-OT (AOT). Purpose:

The size and shape of micelles formed by the surfactant sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate, also known as dioctyl sulfosuccinate (DOSS) or Aerosol-OT (AOT), in aqueous solutions was obtained from appropriate analysis of Small-Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) intensity data. AOT or DOSS is a key ingredient of common oil dispersant formulations. Of interest to this work was how to modulate the formation, size and shape of AOT (or DOSS) micelles by the addition of glucose-based molecules called cyclodextrins that bind to the hydrophobic part of the surfactant molecules.

Wave-vector (1/Angstrom), intensity (1/cm), variance (1/cm), beta-cyclodextrin (b-CD) concentration (0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 20 mM), alpha-cyclodextrin (a-CD) concentration (0, 6, 12, 18, 24, 40 mM), sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT) concentration (2, 6, 12, 22.5 mM).
