Abstract:

Ovigerous female snapping shrimp (Synalpheus apioceros) were collected from two coastal sites in Bocas del Toro, Panama, August 2011. This dataset reports the carapace length of the female and number of embryos carried by the female. Embryos were categorized into three stages of development. Stage 1 was an almost round embryo with uniform yolk and no eye pigments, Stage 2 was an ovoid embryo with slight eye pigmentation, and Stage 3 was an ovoid embryo with fully developed eyes and abdomen free. Length and width measurements for ten random embryos per female were collected using a stereomicroscope with an ocular micrometer. Embryo volumes were then calculated using the length and width measurements. Measurements are reported in millimeters.

Stage: represents embryological stage of development; CL: carapace length in millimeters; # of embryos: represents the number of embryos at that point of development on the specimen; Collection Date: Date the maternal specimen was collected; Collection Site: site specimens were collected in Bocas del Toro, Panama including GPS coordinates, embryo length (mm), embryo width (mm), embryo volume (mm^3).
