Abstract:

Five sediment cores were collected in the Louisiana Bight in April 1997. Diatom remains (valves) were identified and enumerated at various sediment depths. Barium and hopane data from the associated horizons are also included, as well as contemporaneous nitrogen inputs from the Mississippi River.

Purpose:

To determine if observed changes in the diatom assemblage were associated with riverine nitrogen inputs and oil extraction activities.

Methods:

Cores were dated using the Pb-210 constant rate of supply model.
