Abstract:

Microbial communities were tracked approximately every 6 weeks for one year beginning in May 2010 in Pensacola Beach. Sand samples were visibly assessed as oil contaminated or "clean" and total genomic DNA was extracted using a MoBio powersoil DNA extraction kit. 16S rRNA genes were amplified using primers 515F/806R and sequenced on an Illumina MiSeq. This dataset contains 16S Amplicon raw sequence reads.

To track the microbial community structure of Pensacola Beach after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Methods:

Total genomic DNA from microbial beach sand communities were extracted with MoBio powersoil kits from 0.25g of material, the v4 region of the 16S gene was amplified using barcoded primers 515F/806R and sent to the sequencing facility at Argonne National Lab
