Colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) and burst counter (transport) data focusing on benthic exchange and biogeochemical cycling in permeable sediments.

Purpose:

To evaluate the biological diversity and trophic interactions among organisms ranging from primary producers to apex predators and from the deep-sea benthos to the coast. These data contribute to a food web model used to determine risks to ecosystem structure and function and regional economies following from extreme anthropogenic events (e.g., discharged and background hydrocarbon) and adaptive management strategies.

Methods:

All DOC measurements in this data set were recorded on 7/30/2010 and 7/31/2010. The transport measurements in this location were recorded on 6/11/2012 (Header A), 6/12/2012 (Header C), and 6/13/2012 (Header B) at 30 cm above the seafloor. The time of the DOC recordings started at 7/30/2010 at 12:30 pm and ended on 7/31/10 at 8:30 am. Time is Central Time. The depths listed are water depth at the measuring site, i.e. the water column height above the sediment surface. The DOC instrument has a height of 10 cm and sits on the sediment surface. The pressure sensor is located in the center of the instrument, thus, 5 cm need to be added to get the exact water depth from the sea surface to the sediment surface.
