Abstract:
This dataset reports chlorophyll a and b concentrations in sediment samples collected from 4 sites in the Northern Gulf of Mexico between May 21, 2011 and September 16, 2013. Samples were collected from 28 samples sites in Pensacola Bay, Destin-Chotawatchee Bay, Panama City – St. Andrews Bay, and DeSoto Canyon using replicate Shipek sediment grabs. Sediment was frozen in the field for transfer to the lab. Once in the lab, samples were acetone extracted and fluorescence was determined on a Perkin Elmer scanning fluorometer. Standard chlorophyll preparations were used for sample quantification.

Purpose:
To evaluate the biological diversity and trophic interactions among organisms ranging from primary producers to apex predators and from the deep-sea benthos to the coast. These data contribute to a food web model used to determine risks to ecosystem structure and function and regional economies following from extreme anthropogenic events (e.g., discharged and background hydrocarbon) and adaptive management strategies.
Data Parameters and Units:
Date (M/DD/YYYY), Site (Site ID), Chlorophyll a (mg/m^2), Chlorophyll b (mg/m^2) Dataset file SedimentChlorophyll.xlsx includes chlorophyll a and b concentrations in sediment samples collected from 28 sample sites A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, A9, C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6, C7, C8, C9, D1, P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6, P7, P8, P9. A metadata worksheet of dataset file SedimentChlorophyll.xlsx contains coordinates in Degree Minutes (DM) for site - Destin-Choctawhatchee, and coordinates for the rest of the sites are in Decimal degrees (DD).
