Abstract:
Multicore samples collected during the R/V Weatherbird II cruise, from October 2 2012 to October 7 2012 were analyzed for fauna in the laboratory. This dataset reports count data for 171 taxa found in 18 multicore samples. Additionally samples were extracted for DNA and DNA concentrations are included. An experiment exposing sediment from 3 multicores at one sample site to methane for up to 41 days was conducted. Dissolved inorganic carbon production rates are calculated and pyrosequencing data is presented.

Purpose:
To evaluate the biological diversity and trophic interactions among organisms ranging from primary producers to apex predators and from the deep-sea benthos to the coast. These data contribute to a food web model used to determine risks to ecosystem structure and function and regional economies following from extreme anthropogenic events (e.g., discharged and background hydrocarbon) and adaptive management strategies.
