Abstract:

The data set contains the set up files (inputs) and the outputs of 1331 realizations of the Deep-C Oil Model (DCOM). These outputs were used to construct 10th order polynomial chaos expansions considering perturbations in the velocity field and in the oil droplet size distribution. Purpose:

The ensemble was created to quantify the impact of uncertainties in oil droplet size distribution and ocean currents in a forecast of oil transport in a deep-water blow-out.

Data Parameters and Units:

Each realization is identified by a number, e.g. the input and output files from realization number 1 are "dcom_1_input.txt" and "dcom_1_output.nc", respectively. The inputs are text files which were used to set the values of several parameters in DCOM. The parameters "d50", "random_var1", and "random_var2" were used to perturb the oil droplet size distribution ("d50"), and the velocity field ("random_var1" and "random_var2"). The outputs are stored in netcdf files. As DCOM is a Lagrangian model, the output files contain information for each particle released. The main variables ("lon", "lat", "depth", "diam", "fraction evaporated", and "Particle state") are organized in matrices, where each line contains the time evolution of each particle. The variables "lon", "lat" and "depth" indicate the positions of the particles; "diam" stores the diameters (droplet sizes); "fraction evaporated" indicates the percentage of the mass of the particle that was evaporated, and "Particle state" indicates if the particle is active. If "Particle state = -1", the particle has not been released yet, if "Particle state = 0", the particle reached a boundary of the domain and is inactive, and if "Particle state > 0", the particle is active. The variable "time" contains the time information in julian days relative to the matrices columns. The simulations started on time= 39922 days, which corresponds to 20-April-2010.
