Abstract:

This dataset contains a set of stereoscopic particle image velocimetry (SPIV) images taken of a turbulent round jet discharged into an initially stationary ambient. The data were taken on the jet centerline and at non-dimensional downstream distances where the jet turbulence had evolved into a self-preserving state.

Purpose:

To investigate turbulent plumes using SPIV images.

Data Parameters and Units:

The dataset has three folders: (i) calibration, (ii) images for the left camera of the stereoscopic particle image velocimetry (SPIV) system and (iii) images for the right camera of the SPIV system. The calibration folder contains two images, one for the left camera and the other one for the right, which are used to calibrate the SPIV system. To obtain fluid velocities from the images, particle image velocimetry softwares such as DaVis 8 (LaVision Inc.) can be used to process the calibration and particle images.
