Abstract:

Gulf of Mexico from 30 July to 1 August 2011 using sonobuoys. Sonobuoy signal was received with an omnidirectional antenna with a P160VDG preamplifier. The signal (0-3.5 kHz bandwidth) was digitized by a Sound Blaster Audigy USB sound card. A total of 13 53E-type sonobuoys were deployed and recorded for a total of 25 h and 54 minutes.

Purpose:

Data were collected to confirm characteristics of sound produced by Bryde's whales in the Gulf of Mexico.

Data Parameters and Units:

Recordings were analyzed for presence of Bryde's whale calls. Timing of each call was calculated (local time), as well as bearing to the call from sonobuoy deployment location (true bearing), and location of call was calculated where call was recorded on multiple sonobuoys (latitude and longitude).
