Abstract:

Position, sea surface temperature, barometric pressure, and wind speed/direction measured by seven Global Drifter Program drifters launched in the northern Gulf of Mexico during the Grand Lagrangian Deployment (GLAD) experiment in July 2012. Four of these drifters were SVPB type, measuring position, sea surface temperature, and barometric pressure only. The remaining three drifters (with anemometers on board) also recorded wind speed and direction.

Purpose:

These drifters were launched to measure surface circulation, sea surface temperature, barometric pressure, and wind speed/direction in the region where 297 CODE-type ocean drifters were launched in an attempt to measure multi-scale near surface dispersion. The drifters were drogued at 1 meter and most of them were launched in triplets (initially separated by roughly 100 meters).
