Abstract:

Along-track measurements made on board the R/V Walton Smith as part of the GLAD experiment during July-August 2012 in the northern Gulf of Mexico in the vicinity of the Deepwater Horizon site. This dataset includes water depth, longwave and shortwave radiation, fluorometer, GPS position, compass heading, temperature, salinity, wind speed, rainfall and ship velocity.

Purpose:

The dataset was collected to provide information on the oceanic and atmospheric conditions during the period in which the RV Walton Smith was conducting drifter deployments and surveys as a part of the GLAD experiment. This data was conducted from the departure of the vessel from Miami to its return.

Methods:

This data was collected by sensors installed as a part of the normal operation of the RV Walton Smith. It includes navigational data from the ships bridge, meteorological data from towers above the bridge, and oceanic data collected by a flow through system.
