Abstract:

We used four integrations of a Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS)from 2000-2008 to evaluate the prediction of mesoscale circulation in the Gulf of Mexico. This dataset includes the grid, forcing and configuration files for ROMS.

Purpose:

This model was used to study the role of initial conditions, boundary conditions, atmospheric forcing, and resolution in the Mississippi plume area, on the potential to predict Gulf circulation at scales of 20 km or greater.

Methods:

All the .1 files refer to the configuration/initial conditions etc. for the run with child grid. Those without refer to the 5km run (5km everywhere). Because we use 2-way nesting there is only one grid also for the nested case (the grid has different resolution in different places; one for the parent region and one for the child region).
