Abstract:

In laboratory experiments, we simulated environmental conditions comparable to deep seawater during the Deepwater Horizon discharge. This dataset reports metadata associated with 16S rRNA libraries deposited in the NCBI short read archive. This dataset was generated through laboratory microcosm experiments using amended water collected from a natural hydrocarbon seepage area at ~1200m depth.

Purpose:

The purpose of this project was to determine how the addition of chemical dispersant impacts microbial oil degradation and overall microbial community structure in a natural community.

Data Parameters and Units:

Treatment; Incubation Time (Weeks); Replicate #; BioSample (NCBI SRA BioSample accession number) Samples are named Treatment_Timepoint_Replicate. Treatments: SW (In situ seawater preserved at time of collection), BC (Biotic Control) O ( oil water accommodated fraction), D (Dispersant water accommodated fraction), OD (dispersed oil water accommodated fraction). ODN (dispersed oil water accommodated fraction with additional nutrient addition) Timepoints: T0 (immediately following incubation), T1 (1 week incubation ), T2 (2.5 weeks incubation), T3 (4 weeks incubation), T4 (6 weeks incubation) Replicate number: three replicates were performed at each time point.
