Abstract:

GIS shape file for the Water Quality Monitoring Stations in three outfalls of Nova Canal (LPGA, Reed, Halifax Canal), latitude, longitude, and monitoring parameters (water temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), salinity, turbidity, pH, Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN), ammonia (NH4), nitrate/nitrite (NOx), and orthophosphate (PO4).

Purpose:

To locate the water quality sampling sites where the water quality samples were collected during the study period. The sample collections were conducted for a thesis project funded by NOAA-CCME II.

Methods:

This study focuses on the Nova Canal and Halifax River watershed. Seven sampling sites were strategically selected along three major stormwater canals—LPGA Canal, Reed Canal, and Halifax Canal, which collect and discharge urban stormwater runoff from municipalities adjacent to the Halifax River. These municipalities include Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, South Daytona, Port Orange, and Holly Hill. Given these canals' role in transporting freshwater, sediments, nutrients, and pollutants into the estuary, the sampling sites were selected to assess the stormwater quality, particularly salinity, turbidity, and nutrients, and compare them to the Halifax River. This dataset is the point shape file of the 7 locations.
