Abstract:

The dataset contains online survey questionnaire answers that seek to understand variables of trust, influence, and other parameters in social science used to measure and understand interagency cooperation. This survey studies 34 agencies (Federal, State, Inter-state, NGO, and Mexican agencies) that work within the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Network. The survey is roughly 30 minutes long, with 26 questions. The survey instrument is broken into five groups (described as blocks within the survey) that all seek to understand various components in network composition and function. The survey was sent through Qualtrics software to all publicly available e-mail addresses. Additionally, a link within the e-mail also allowed other users to join in as well. Purpose:

The purpose of this dataset is to collect information pertaining to interagency cooperation of fishery management within the Gulf of Mexico.

Data Parameters and Units:

The Word document "Fishery Management Survey in the Gulf of Mexico Codebook.docx" is a codebook and contains information about the survey questionnaire, variable descriptions, and code values used in the datasets. The Excel file "Fishery Management Survey Raw Data.csv" contains data from the questionnaire survey related to consent, demographic variables, communication variables, trust-related variables, disposition and comments. All the variables code values used in this data file are explained in the accompanied codebook.

Methods:

Data were collected through a questionnaire survey that included 26 questions. The questions were broken into five block groups within the survey to understand various components in network composition and function as described below: Block 0- Consent (1 Question) Block 1- Demographic Variables (7 Questions) Block 2- Communication Variables (6 Questions) Block 3- Trust-related Variables (9 Questions) Block 4- Disposition & Comments (3 Questions) The survey was distributed using the Qualitrics survey software to members of 27 organizations via email obtained from publicly available sources, such as online contact list, directories, and meeting records. A survey link generated through Qualtrics was also able to be shared that allowed other users who were not e-mailed directly to join as well. In total, 285 people provided responses to the survey that was available in both English and Spanish. Data was obtained through drop-down menus, single answer selections, fill in the blank, and 1-3 and 1-5 Likert scales.
