Abstract:

Density estimates of red snapper on uncharacterized (unknown) habitats off Louisiana and Texas from 2018 and 2019. Visual surveys using Adaptive Resolution Imaging Sonar (ARIS) and standard video surveys were conducted simultaneously during hydroacoustic surveys on a subset of sites and were used to calculate a species abundance and this proportion was then used to calculate the number of red snapper based on the hydroacoustic data.

Purpose:

Determine the number of red snapper residing on uncharacterized (unknown) habitat in Louisiana and Texas.

Transect_station A code unique to the transect sampled Interval Transects were partitioned into intervals, this denotes which interval the data was from Region TX shelf region code (N = North, C = Central, S = South) Lon/Lat Decimal longitude/latitude Date Survey date YYYYMMDD Area_surveyed Cell area surveyed in m2, estimated from acoustic beam dimensions Fish.abundance Abundance of fish targets in the cell as determined from the acoustic analysis methodology Fish_areal_dens100 Density (per 100m2) of fish targets in the cell Dens100_regAvg Red Snapper density (per 100m2). Species composition based on ‘average’ proportion of red snapper per transect in each region (north, middle, south). Average proportion derived from individuals transects. Dens100_regPooled Red Snapper density (per 100m2). Species composition based total number of red snapper in each region (north, middle, south) divided by the total number of fish detected in all videos in the region. Counts from all transects pooled for proportion estimates. Dens100_allAvg Red Snapper density (per 100m2). Species composition based on ‘average’ proportion of red snapper per transect with no regional designation. Average proportion derived from individuals transects. Methods:

Visual camera surveys were conducted in conjunction with hydroacoustic surveys using ARIS (Adaptive Resolution Imaging Sonar) to estimate Red Snapper densities.
