Abstract:

In-situ oceanographic data was collected from 2022-03-17 to 2022-04-12 for five sites in the northern Mississippi Sound for measuring water quality parameters to determine the effects on oyster populations. Conductivity, low and high range (μS/cm), dissolved oxygen (mg/L), and temperature (°F) were sampled via a sensor platform lander. Four sites, Location 4, 5, 8, and 10, correspond to the equivalent location numbers of the 2018 survey https://doi.org/10.7266/GFKSVW5R.

Purpose:

To measure water quality data in the northern Mississippi Sound for the goal of determining how these parameters affect oyster populations.

Data Parameters and Units:

Conductivity, low range (æS/cm); conductivity, high range (æS/cm); dissolved oxygen (mg/L); temperature (°F); latitude (decimal degrees); longitude (decimal degrees); date time (m/dd/yyyy GMT-05:00); sample number; no data value (-9999).

Methods:

Each lander is composed of an aluminum housing approximately 14 inches width and 14 inches height with a rubber bottom approximately 8 inches in height. The rubber (a vehicle tire) is used to keep the lander housing out of the loose, fine-grained sediment. The combined conductivity and temperature sensor and dissolved oxygen sensor were mounted approximately 9 inches off the seafloor. A depth sensor was not used.
