Abstract:

Over 9 years of monthly research cruises (from 2010-01-18 to 2019-11-16) in Galveston Bay, secchi measurements were taken and samples were collected for phytoplankton pigments. Pigments in the dataset have been normalized to Chlorophyll a.

Purpose:

The purpose of the research cruises was to determine the phytoplankton community composition in Galveston Bay as it relates to water quality.

Data Parameters and Units:

Month, Date (MM/DD/YYYY), Purpose (Upper Bay Sampling; Lower Bay Sampling; Bay Sampling; Hurricane response - Harvey; Galveston Bay Sampling TAMU/TAMUG), Latitude and Longitude (Decimal Degrees), Secci (Secchi disk depth in meters), and pigments (peridinin, fucoxanthin, alloxanthin, zeaxanthin, chlorophyll b). All pigments have been standardized to chlorophyll a. Please note that the empty cells are meant to be blank and are samples that were not collected.

Methods:

Pigments were measured using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and peaks were picked by comparison of retention times. Secchi depth measurements were determined by lowering the disk into the water until it was no longer visible and recording the depth.
