Abstract:

Over 9 years, monthly research cruises were conducted across Galveston Bay from Trinity Bay to the Gulf of Mexico from 2010-01-18 to 2019-11-16. Parameters measured for this study include: water quality (temperature, salinity, pH and dissolved oxygen), nutrients (NO3-, NO2-, NH4+, Pi, and HSiO3-), chlorophyll a concentrations, total suspended solids, Total organic carbon (TOC) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC).

Purpose:

The cruises were performed monthly from 2010-01-18 to 2019-11-16, to gather physical parameters, monitor nutrients and observe the phytoplankton community in Galveston Bay. The goal was to determine any seasonal differences and elucidate relationships between the parameters gathered.

Data Parameters and Units:

Latitude, Longitude, Temp (°C), Sal (PSU), DO (mg L-1), DO (%), pH, specific conductivity (SpC), TSS (mg L-1), Chlorophyll a ( ug/L), NH4+ (µM),NO3- +NO2 (um/L), TN (µM), TP (µM), DOC (ppm),TOC (ppm)

Methods:

pH, salinity, temperature, LDO/ LDO %, and specific conductivity were all surface measurements taken with a Hydrolab HL4. Chlorophyll a was measured using the fluorometric method (turner 10AU fluorometer) using techniques according to Arar and Collins (1997). Nutrient samples were frozen until analysis using an Astoria Pacifica auto analyzer according to followed the GERG ARM-SOP-0702. TSS samples - 150mL of water from each station was filtered using a combusted (Whatman) filter; samples were set to dry for a week before weighing. TOC/DOC- Used Shimadzu TOC-5000/ASI-5000.
