Abstract:

INTRODUCTION Minority, elderly and low income residents of the Mississippi Gulf Coast face significant healthcare challenges. Specifically, African American and Vietnamese communities on the Gulf Coast suffer from high rates of respiratory illnesses and chronic diseases, worsened by environmental hazards like floods and hurricanes. These social determinants may often go unaddressed, leaving health disparities unresolved. PURPOSE: The overall purpose of the study is to investigate the needs and assets of Black and Vietnamese communities along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, use the data to improve public health data systems, and inform interventions to reduce asthma and other respiratory health disparities in these communities. METHODOLOGY The project employed a mixed-methods strategy utilizing an interdisciplinary, culturally competent community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach to engage affected communities in identifying existing data, data gaps, and assets that can be leveraged to address pernicious health problems for Gulf Coast communities through improved public health data systems.

Purpose:

The overall purpose of the study is to investigate the needs and assets of Black and Vietnamese communities along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, use the data to improve public health data systems, and inform interventions to reduce asthma and other respiratory health disparities in these communities

Data Parameters and Units:

The photos are in digital files and stored securely online. These hospital codes and digital files are also stored securely online. Hospital data were measured in codes. For example: Hypertension- ICD-10 code of 'H35031' 'H35032' etc. Each chronic condition involved multiple ICD codes that needed to be correctly captured. Each patient visit had up to 25 ICD codes.

Methods:
