Abstract:

This community-driven project aims to collaborate with various community organizations and citizens to improve population health data systems in Beaumont and Port Arthur Gulf Communities in Texas. The primary focus is to gather extensive data related to both spatial and social determinants of health, alongside a meticulous examination of air quality conditions in the region. This multifaceted initiative employs survey methodologies to solicit for information on Demographic and household Information; Perceived Air Quality; Climate Change measuring , Perceptions, Awareness, Impairment and Distress (PAID); Social determinant of health (e.g., food, housing and living situation, Utilities, Transportation, Personal safety, Healthcare/Medical Assistance); Respiratory health; General Health Behaviors; Residential mobility; and Exposure to Environmental Pollution. By linking spatial and social determinants of health with air quality metrics, the project aims to provide a holistic understanding of the factors influencing public health in these coastal communities. The ultimate goal is to contribute valuable information to inform policy decisions, public health interventions, and community initiatives, fostering an environment conducive to improved health and well-being. Through meticulous data collection and analysis, this endeavor aspires to bring about positive changes and fortify the foundation of public health in Beaumont and Port Arthur.
