Abstract:

This dataset contains all of the seabird survey data that are used to fit statistical habitat models whose predictions are employed to produce distribution maps for the ecosystem model Atlantis-Gulf of Mexico (GOM), and for parameterizing the habitat capacity model of the ecosystem model West Florida Shelf Reef fish Ecospace. Three files are provided here. Each file provides: (i) the longitudes (°E) where seabirds were sighted; (ii) the latitudes (°N) where seabirds were sighted; (iii) the years during which seabirds were sighted; and (iv) the names of the surveys that sighted seabirds (factors).

Purpose:

This dataset contains all of the survey data that are used to fit statistical habitat models whose predictions are employed to produce distribution maps for the ecosystem model Atlantis-GOM, and for parameterizing the habitat capacity model of the ecosystem model WFS Reef fish Ecospace.

Data Parameters and Units:

The present database contains a total of 3 files. Each of these 3 files provides: (i) the longitudes (°E) where seabirds were sighted; (ii) the latitudes (°N) where seabirds were sighted; (iii) the years during which seabirds were sighted; and (iv) the names of the surveys that sighted seabirds (factors). Here are the details of the 3 files of the present database: (1) "Seabirds.csv" for the seabird group represented in the WFS Reef fish Ecospace ecosystem model: Longitude (°E); Latitude (°N); Year; Survey (factor). (2) "Diving_birds.csv" for the diving bird group represented in the Atlantis-GOM ecosystem model: Longitude (°E); Latitude (°N); Year; Survey (factor). (3) "Surface_feeding_birds.csv" for the surface feeding bird group represented in the Atlantis-GOM ecosystem model: Longitude (°E); Latitude (°N); Year; Survey (factor).

Methods:

Four different survey datasets provided data for the 3 files provided here; an alias was assigned to each of these 4 survey datasets: (1) NOAA Gulf of Mexico Cetacean II Surveys (GulfCetII) (Alias: GulfCet2). (2) DIVER low level bird survey (Alias: DiverLowLevel). (3) DIVER aerial colony photo survey (Alias: DiverAerial). (4) eBird surveys (Alias: eBird). Here are the details of the survey data (survey datasets and years) used to generate the 3 files included in the present database: (1) "Seabirds.csv": Survey datasets (aliases): GulfCet2, DiverLowLevel, DiverAerial, eBird. Years: 1996, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014. (2) "Diving_birds.csv": Survey datasets (aliases): GulfCet2, DiverLowLevel, DiverAerial, eBird. Years: 1996, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014. (3) "Surface_feeding_birds.csv": Survey datasets (aliases): GulfCet2, DiverLowLevel, DiverAerial, eBird. Years: 1996, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014.
