Abstract:

This dataset contains data identifying fish eggs obtained from oceanographic cruises using the continuous underway fish egg sampler (CUFES) in west Florida from 2013-09-13 to 2014-09-27 with sequences of the mitochondrial gene. Fish eggs were identified using DNA barcoding. This dataset will help in the identification of spawning sites. Purpose:

To identify fish spawning sites using DNA barcoding.

Data Parameters and Units:

Sequence_name, sample_name, organism, isolation_source (seawater), collection_date (mm/dd/yyy), collection_time (hr:min:sec), lat_lon (decimal degrees), station number, geo_loc_name (USA: Gulf of Mexico), samp_collect_device, description, number of fish eggs processed, and Sequence.

Methods:

Fish eggs were collected using the CUFES (continuous underway fish egg sampler). More information about the CUFES are described here: Southwest Fisheries Science Center, 2022: Continuous Underway Fish-Egg Sampler (CUFES) Database. Fish barcoding methods are described in Kerr et al., 2020.
